Perviouslike on Heros

Scene: Night, Interior, Claire's Bedroom

Claire: I love you, Mom.

Sandra: I love you . . . just the way you are.

Claire: I just wish I could be normal. Then maybe things would have been different between you and Dad.

Sandra: Honey, things between your father and I were troublesome long before you came along.

*brakes screech*

*glass breaks*

Come on, writers. "Between your father and I?" Really? Happy National Grammar Day!

I am totally not a grammar geek. I scored a 6-something on my English sat II's. So, what's wrong with this line?

it should be "between your father and me." when in doubt, just replace the "you and me" with the combo version which, in this case, would be "us." you wouldn't say "between we," right? it would be "between us" so it should be "between you and me."

also, please don't confuse "its" with "it's" or else you'll get one of these: http://nodivisions.com/music/songs/strongbad/

Happy Grammar Day to you too!

Regarding the "your father and I" thing, I have an easier way to remember it. The sentence should read correctly even if you take one of the people out. So "things between your father were troublesome long before..." and "thing between me were troublesome before...." would be correct, but when you have the original sentence, and take out the father you get "things between I were troublesome..." which sounds obviously incorrect, so you can tell that "I" is wrong and it should be me.

Wow, that's a lot harder to explain than it is to remember...

gw - thanks! should i totally geek out and mention that actually, you can't take one of the people out because "between I" or "between father" wouldn't be correct either b/c you need another person for something to be between? ;) that tip does work for things like "for" though, i.e. "this crazy grammar day is great for people like you and me." :D

did anyone else think that sylar's dad would end up being horned rim glasses guy aka Mr. Bennet? baby horned rim and daddy horned rim!

ooh, i hadn't thought about it (mostly b/c i was dozing during this ep) but that's a good theory. but why would HRG give up his son and then pick up a daughter and then have another son? and, um, kill his baby momma?!
