- Top Three Shampoos: Kiehl's Olive Oil Shampoo; Jacques Dessange Nutri-Extreme; Klorane Citron Pulp Shampoo. I think I switch out my shampoos every time one runs out but these three are among the best just because they smell good enough to eat.
- Top Three Conditioners: Kiehl's Olive Oil Conditioner; Frederic Fekkai Glossing Conditioner; Klorane Nutritive Detangling Balm with Mink Oil. I have thick Desi hair (I mean, thick as in nearly every time I go to get my hairS cut, the barber/stylist/deaf drone comments on how thick it is) and I need super duper conditioners to tame my locks lest they turn into mujahideen hair.
- Top Three Facial Washes: Evian's Affinity, Darphin Cleansing Aromatic Emulsion; Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser. I didn't say this list was cheap; it's just the stuff I dig.
- Top Three Hand Lotions: Nuxe Reve de Miel; Klorane Creme Mains; Aveda Hand Relief. Key factor is that my hands feel moisturized but not greasy and slippery afterwards
- Top Three Body Cleansers: Aveda's Energizing Body Cleanser; Fresh Index Pink Jasmine Body Cleanser; L'Occitane Olive Golden Branch Shower Cream. Makes me want to use the loufa puff to stretch out the life of the product (and my dollar)
- Top Three Body Lotions: Santa Maria Novella Latte Per Il Corpo; Fresh Index Pink Jasmine Body Cream; Bliss Lemon + Sage Body Butter. Scent is ultimate deciding factor here because all the rest just goes down the drain anyway.

Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific
My friend Ms. Moneybags lives in Paris and visits DC every year around this time. And every year, she asks me what kinds of ungents, salves, and hair care products I would like for her to bring me. Yes, that's right. I'm SO fancy, that I get my beauty products imported from France. Anyway, in keeping with the listology, I present you with Baji's Favorite Lotions and Potions (including the pedestrian domestic products):

i confess to once using "the orange stuff" to wash my hair while a guest at chez baji, and it made me want to eat my sideburns!
ha! what was the orange stuff? the only thing that i recall really captured your heart was the williams sonoma dishwashing liquid -- it was either tomato or coriander. too bad that's not a beauty product. or is it? . . .
i have no idea what it was, but it was orange and it was delicious... i mean it smelled great!
the tomato soap was surprisingly nice; who knew tomatoes were aromatic?
Oh, that is just fabulous. I would love to treat my excellent locks with the likes of Klorane Citron pulp, i heard it is just excellent for split-odds and ends. What I think is Pert-inent in this list is the Dolphin Cleansing Aromatic emulsion. That stuff is definteily head and shoulders above the rest. Shampoo.

I just mail ordered my favorite shampoo/conditioner ever. Baji you have to try it. It is organic vanilla silk from Organix.
Your hair, will smell like cookies. ALL FRIGGIN DAY.
I first tried it in Chicago at a friends apartment. And I did not ever want to leave that shower. Ever.
first, i think i prefer spicy or sharp scents over sweet for my hair. that's why i can barely stand the lush store. but i might give it a shot based on your recommendation.
second, i cannot beliewe that the only people who have commented on this subject are all dudes. particularly dudes who rarely wisit the blog. what is going on?
Rarely wisit? one of my main dives yo. Just post more about shampoo. Seriously though, often times I skip shampoo and just use soap, or nothing. Thats why it looks like i have rat hair on my head.
why do i feel like i have absolutely nothing to contribute to this post?! i haaaaate you all - especially the boys - for knowing more about this estuff than i do.
i don't have much to offer in terms of specifics.
all i know is, i like shampoos that smell like citrus.
that's yummy.
i also like body washes and lotions and perfumes that smell citrus-y. so i think you get the point.
(don't worry, i don't use 'em all at once.)
and i lowve St. Ives apricot scrub for my face. and some kinda Dove moisturizer with SPF, so i don't have skin cancer when i'm 40, from all this sitting around in the sunshine that i do.
that's kinda the end.
also: J told me this morning, too, about his shampoo that smells like cookies, and i must admit i am so intrigued now. i can't believe cookies have the potential to beat out the citrus, though. i mean, really? really?! (interro-ediblicious!)
I use pert plus but have been informed by my better half that I have no use for shampoo due to my lack of locks. I remember the days at Fantastic Sam's when Lois would comment on my hair and how thick it was. She cut my hair for 12 years! I am shamed to show my face (and scalp) to her now. ED laughs that I actually even use shampoo and then falls on the floor when she sees that I only use a pea sized amount and that the same bottle has lasted me over two years now!
The best hand cream is L'Occitane's with shea butter ($25 in a lovely tube). A more affordable one is Aveeno's, also very nice.
As you know (or you may not), I have not purchased shampoo since 2004 when I started working in women's magazines and began being pelted with free shampoo from all directions. That well will dry up, however, as I only have a couple bottles left and nearly every magazine on Earth has folded (and the Wall Street Journal giveaway so far has consisted mainly of Michael Chabon books, which are great but leave my hair smelling rather musty).
I've been trying to de-plastify my life, so I'm thinking next time I do buy shampoo, I will try a Lush shampoo bar. Will let you know circa end of '09 how that went. While I am on my no-plastic bent, let me recommend Eco-Dent (http://www.eco-dent.com) to everyone for their dental floss needs. It is actually cheaper than the regular brands, comes in a handy little cardboard container and works brilliantly (steps off non-plastic soapbox).

yz - citrus rules and aye, dove moisturizer is quite nice - light weight and pleasant smelling.
om - HA! ah, good old fantastic sams. yeah, tp uses microscopic amounts while my bottles change every month or so. sometimes, if i want a new product, the old ones goes in the guest bathroom. why do you think we always invite people to stay over? ;)
gj - i was actually going to post something about toothpaste (sensodyne, arm & hammer, aim) but figured enough was enough. i'll have to try out that ecodent though. also, l'oc has some good deals going on for the holidays and i was just about to get some shea butter cream! mmmm . . . butter cream.
also, any extra chabon? i wanted to read "the yiddish policemen's union" but am gunshy after "the final solution."
Yiddish Policemen's Union is okay, but I would say you could skip it. I mean, of course it's better than lots of people's best works and he always has dazzling sentences, but I thought the story was pretty dumb. The one I got from WSJ is Gentlemen of the Road and I haven't read it yet and probably won't for a while.
L'Occitane does this wonderful Citrus and Ginger body wash and lotion too - it smells heavenly!
Face cream - try Clarins energising morning cream - it smells of freshly cut grass. It's just wonderful.

you know what is gross? hand cream that makes your hands feel sticky. how the hell?
that is gross! if i ever accidently get one of those, i just use it on my feet at night and pull some socks on so i don't end up with a wad of blanket stuck to my toes.
maybe the hand cream is not hand cream but in fact deodorant. baji can explain if anyone wants details. lesson learned: always read the packaging . . .
i think gj would understand this as well, having mistaken lip balm for sunscreen (i think that was the situation.)
i use lush shampoos! among other regular shampoos. murad facial cleansers & toners are good for me & my punjabi pores. I will check out the cookie-smelling shampoo though! sounds promising.

anj - ooh, i used murad too - i like the foaming pomegranate face wash. pleasing scent and no extra effort to make the foam myself.
